Invocation for Rotary 4-30-12
Let us be thankful for that which we have;
To feelings of need let that be a salve;
For all the things Rotary helps bring to others,
By treating all peoples as sisters and brothers;
For safe, reliable electrical power,
For waking up with a hot, clean shower;
For toilets that tidily whisk waste away,
For the men that haul rubbish each garbage day.
For automatic heat that warms our house,
For knowledge at the click of a mouse,
For all the world's sports and arts,
In electronic devices we hold close to our hearts;
For waterproof roofs and windproof walls,
For firemen, medicine and hospitals;
For the absence of tanks rolling down our street,
For affordable clothes and shoes for our feet.
For swift transportation with the press of pedal
And very few days that really test our mettle.
For on-demand water, typhoid-free,
And a chance to be what you want to be.
How long it will last none of us can say,
But history suggests it will end someday.
So let us cherish each day things stay this good;
We have it better than Louis XIV ever could.
