I started playing drums in January 2020 at age 50. Previously, I played pencils on books for 40 years, or tapped on steering wheels and desks. That's literally how I developed some of my limb independence. I'm a real estate lawyer by day, and I enjoy washing away the stress of the day with an hour on the kit. It is the only physical activity I ever actually crave. I play about 3-5 times a week for a little over an hour.
I only play songs that I truly enjoy and have in my music library. I don't formally rehearse any of these, though some of the songs I play regularly because they are on my playlist of great tracks to drum to. And some I've been listening to for 40 years. In these videos I'm not trying to exactly duplicate the original drums. I just like to interface with my favorite music and have fun.
At some point, the instinct to perform for others kicks in, I suppose. And so I have created a YouTube channel of drum covers where I play along to with my favorite music.
Find it HERE. Or, three of my most popular videos are accessible below.
